Telling Stories, Connecting Lives: PPHM Celebrates 75 years

Back Forward
September 27, 2008 – March 29, 2009

Highlights from exhibits over the course of the museum’s history demonstrate how artifacts connect people to environment around them and how PPHM tells that story.

Visitors will travel back in time through the first 75 years of PPHM and enjoy the nostalgia of seeing things they saw in the museum as a child from New Deal dioramas to Tableaux from the original “Fashion Hall”.

When it opened, PPHM was a 12,500 square foot building with one gallery.  Since then, PPHM has become the largest history museum in Texas with 22 galleries and more than 2 million artifacts.

The role of the museum remains the same today as when it began. As Hattie Anderson so eloquently expressed her dream, "It is the sacred duty of ours to collect the record of life here and hand this on to the children of the future...and we believe in the future our people will point with pride to their Museum and the Historical Society."
