PPHM Annual Report

Located on the campus of West Texas A&M University, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is the largest history museum in Texas, with a collection of over two million artifacts preserving this region’s past. The role of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum remains the same as it was in 1921. “It is the sacred duty of ours to collect the record of life here and hand this on to the children of the future,” visionary founder Hattie Anderson once said, “and we believe in the future our people will point with pride to their museum and the historical society."

In PPHM's tremendous holdings, visitors find the heart of Texas art, the free spirit of the Taos and Santa Fe schools of art, and unsurpassed Southwest American Indian art. They can unlock the hidden world of the ancient past through the paleontology, geology and archaeology areas while learning about the rich history of the region and seeing some of the finest examples of American fashion in the Textiles Gallery. Exhibits change constantly and there is always something new to see. From dinosaurs to modern art, from saddles to automobiles, PPHM has it all.
