Curator of Art
Deana Craighead (pronounced DEE-NUH), a Dalhart girl, is our PPHM Curator of Art. Deana is responsible for the curation, preservation and collection of art for PPHM in addition to teaching art history focused courses at WTAMU.
Deana comes to PPHM with a B.S. in History from Texas Tech University and an M.A. in Art History from West Texas A&M University. One of the highlights of her education was a study abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris. Deana said it was life changing to see in person the works of art she had studied for so long in school. She has over 10 years of experience from the Amarillo Museum of Art, beginning as a volunteer and most recently as Curator of Education.Right out of college, her first job in Amarillo was with Center City and the Main Street program, where she learned about the history of this area.
“Growing up in Dalhart, I always considered the panhandle home but longed to see other parts of the country. When I returned to the panhandle after living in California for several years, I fell in love anew with this unique place. In my previous role as an art educator, I shared the stories that others created through art exhibitions. I feel fortunate that PPHM has given me the opportunity to tell the fascinating and diverse stories of a place that I hold so dear!"
Her hobbies include skiing (water and snow), traveling (so I can see ALL the art!), reading of all kinds, food – both cooking and eating, and spending time with her family, especially her two teenaged children.
